The Envirothon is an exciting natural resource education program designed to challenge students in an interactive competition where middle and high school teams (consisting of 3-5 students) are tested in areas of Wildlife, Forestry, Aquatic Ecology, Soils and Land Use, and Current Environmental Issues. Teams work collaboratively to develop their knowledge of ecology and natural resource management and to practice their environmental problem-solving skills in preparation for Envirothon competitions.

Competitions begin at the regional level based on the NC Association of Soil & Water Conservation District areas. Person County students will compete in the Area 3 Envirothon which includes students from Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Guilford, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Orange, Person, Randolph, and Rockingham Counties.  The top seven teams in high school and middle school move on to the State Envirothon competition with the first place High School team advancing to the National Conservation Foundation (NCF) Envirothon competing against teams from across the United States, Canada and Asia.

The Person SWCD sponsors local teams to compete in this event.  Teams are open to FFA, Environmental clubs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H clubs, home school groups, or any group interested in competing.

If you are interested in competing or need help forming a team, please contact our office and review this team tip guide provided by the NC Envirothon.
