Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) can lead fulfilling lives that include friendships, family, hobbies, community involvement, and employment but may need support in achieving these goals.  

At Person Industries (PI), the Adult Developmental Vocational Program (ADVP) assists people with I/DD to explore and participate in their community through vocational, volunteer, or integrated leisure opportunities. 

ADVP staff provide individualized support to help participants build positive work habits, job skills, and independence. Staff help members identify their interests, strengths, and personal goals while finding meaningful ways to contribute to and engage with their communities. 

Because every person is unique, services are tailored to individual needs. One person may work on social development while another works on managing personal finances, learning daily living skills, or completing production and recycling tasks. Participants may also have opportunities to perform production or recycling work at PI/PCRC and get paid. When ADVP participants are interested in jobs outside of Person Industries, they are referred to our Employment Services program. 
 
There are many community services that benefit people with developmental disabilities, and ADVP staff can help connect program participants with those services, including:

• Special Olympics through Person County Parks and Recreation
• Health and wellness programs through the NC Office on Disability and Health
• Retirement and senior services through the Council on Aging
• Volunteer opportunities and other community engagement programs 

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• At least 21 years of age
• Diagnosis of I/DD not in need of daytime skilled nursing care
• Resident of Person County, although residents of other counties may be served when space allows
• Legal resident of US
• Eligible for service authorization through Vaya Health or Alliance Health
