Emergency Preparedness Program
Public health threats can be caused by natural, accidental, or intentional means. The Emergency Preparedness Program aims to strengthen and enhance the capability of the community to prepare for, respond to, and recover from health-related threats. Our goal is to save lives by strengthening and enhancing the readiness of Person County citizens, local public health and health care partners.
The all-hazards threat planning approach is achieved through collaboration with local, regional, and state partners. By coordinating efforts to prepare for and respond to health-related emergencies, agencies can increase efficiency and make better use of available resources.
To ensure public health is prepared for all types of hazardous threats, the health department does the following:
- Launches public health responder notifications.
- Requires Incident Command System Training.
- Maintains a Respiratory Protection Program.
- Partners with local businesses to become Closed Points of Dispensing Partners.
- Develops and revises Emergency Public Health Response Plans.
- Participates in exercises with other response agencies.
