The Person County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on September 24, 2024, and approved the closure of State Road 1333, Country Club Road, from the intersection with Edwin Robertson Road south for approximately 3,800 feet. This closure begins on October 8, 2024 and will prepare for the development of the Person County Mega Park.
Signage for this closure will begin the week of September 30. Once closed, Edwin Robertson Road, Community House Road, Chub Lake Road, and Cavel Chub Lake Road will lead to alternate routes around the area.
Closing a portion of Country Club Road, as shown in the map below, is necessary to develop the Person County Mega Park. The portion of Country Club Road that runs through the Mega Park would be closed from the intersection of Edwin Robertson Road south for approximately 3,800 feet. No property owner would be deprived access to their property.
On June 17, 2024, the Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution requesting abandonment from the State Maintained Secondary Road System. NC Department of Transportation reviewed the request and referred it to the NC Board of Transportation for their consideration. The requested abandonment was approved during the September Board of Transportation meeting.
On Sept. 3, 2024, the Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution calling for a public hearing on September 24, 2024, at 6 p.m. on the proposal to close a portion of Country Club Road.
History of the Person County Mega Park
Mega Park planning and site preparations have been ongoing for almost a decade. Person County has made a significant investment in the development and marketing of the site, which was designated as a North Carolina Certified Site by the NC Department of Commerce. The rendering above and the map below depict the site plan approved for construction by the US Army Corps of Engineers in 2020.
Situating a building on the land spanning either side of County Club Road utilizes the flattest portion of a topographically challenging site, adjoins the water and power lines that run through the property, and avoids protected wetlands. In addition, constructing a project in accordance with the US Army Corps of Engineers permit saves significant time in the development process.
Person County does not have a site plan for a specific project but has continued making preparations for site development in accordance with concept plans that have been in place for many years. The recent rezoning of the Mega Park from Rural Conservation (RC) to General Industrial (GI) and the proposed closure of a portion of County Club Road are signs of the county’s continued commitment to attracting an economic development project that will make a significant investment and impact in our community.
(NOTE: The road around the outer perimeter of this sample site plan is a concept ONLY. Any roads constructed within the Mega Park may be oriented differently and/or have limited access.)
