Thank you so much for considering fostering for Person County Animal Services! Foster families open their homes and their hearts to abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs while they are awaiting their fur-ever homes and help get them out of the shelter.

Responsibilities of a Caregiver

Foster families are responsible for caring for the dogs and cats, socializing them, offering them basic training, and for helping to integrate them into family life. Pets will be matched and paired with foster homes based on the criteria that the foster family provides in the Foster Volunteer Packet.

Foster families are also responsible for taking the pets back to the shelter when vaccines and check-ups are due, speaking and meeting with potential adopters, and attending events when available. Our shelter will help provide food, a crate, toys, and other supplies needed for basic care of the pet as needed per foster family.

Person County Animal Services has a Program Coordinator readily available to assist the foster families and ensure each party maintains a clear line of communication to ensure all needs are met and helps to arrange meet-and-greet times between the fosters and adopters.

Our cat fosters will primarily be responsible for taking in mama cats, young kittens, senior cats, or felines with special needs.
