Thomas Family Farms Named State Conservation Farm Family of the Year

Post Date:06/16/2026

Thomas Family Farms was named North Carolina's Outstanding Farm Family for 2025 earlier this month by the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.  The Thomas Family Farms, located in Person County, is a multi-generational operation where each family member contributes their unique expertise to a cohesive business. Their diverse operations encompass field crops, hog farming, and forestry.

A strong commitment to environmental stewardship is evident through their adoption of various conservation practices. These include cover crops, no-till planting, and crop rotation, all integrated into their operations via comprehensive conservation, waste management, and forest management plans. The farm also plays an active role in community education, hosting farm visits, tours, and demonstrations for various groups.

The Conservation Farm Family award program, sponsored by the NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (NCASWCD), acknowledges North Carolina farmers and farm families who excel in implementing effective, innovative, and economical conservation practices. This award also recognizes their active involvement in conservation education.

Congratulations to Thomas Family Farms on their well-deserved recognition and thank you for your commitment to utilizing conservation practices that improve the health of our soil and water resources.
