Effective at 8 a.m., Sunday, May 3, 2026, the open burning restrictions previously implemented by the NC Forest Service and Person County Fire Marshal’s Office have been rescinded in Person County. Several North Carolina counties are still under the ban.
“While recent precipitation has reduced the fire danger level, residents are reminded to use caution and safe burning practices before starting any fire,” stated Shawn Bradsher, Person County Fire Marshal. “Please note, only natural vegetation debris may be burned. Burning household trash, construction materials, tires, or other non-vegetative items is illegal.”
