On June 11, the Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center (TNVLC) hosted its annual Volunteer of the Year Recognition Event, honoring individuals whose selfless service strengthens nonprofits and communities across the Greater Triangle area. Since 1973, TNVLC has organized this annual recognition event celebrating the transformative power of volunteerism in our region. The Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards are coordinated locally by TNVLC for Chatham, Durham, Granville, Orange, Person, and Wake counties on behalf of the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service.

The 2025 Governors Volunteer Service Award winners for Person County were:

• Ruth Burch - nominated by NC Cooperative Extension of Person County
• Steffi Kinton - nominated by My Life Matters
• Nancy Lee Newell - nominated by Person County Senior Center

County Manager Katherine Cathey presented the awards during the recognition ceremony.
