DUKE ENERGY - Supplemental Update to Carolinas Resource Plan

Post Date:01/31/2024 5:00 PM

Today, Duke Energy filed a supplemental update to its Carolinas Resource Plan originally filed with regulators in August 2023.

Duke Energy’s N.C. president, Kendal Bowman, provides an overview of the filing in this brief video.

Here are some highlights:

  • The most significant changes to the plan include an increase in hydrogen-capable natural gas plants, more solar and storage, and the potential timing of offshore wind off the coast of North Carolina, pending future evaluation by state regulators. This is all part of maintaining our diverse, “all of the above” approach to protect reliability and affordability for customers.
  • New generation sited at existing coal sites to keep jobs and investment in areas that depend on it.
  • Two proposed natural gas plants in Person County, doubling our investment there, and new natural gas investments in Catawba County.
  • Continued support for a new nuclear facility in Stokes County, with an additional site to be determined in 2025.
  • Options for paths to 70% carbon reduction by 2030, 2033 and 2035.

Additional details can be found in this fact sheet.
